Online renewal is generally available when:
Online renewal may be available for passenger vehicles, motorcycles, off-highway vehicles, commercial trailers, farm vehicles, and car rental vehicles, depending on the vehicle and renewal type.
When renewing online, select Accu-Search as your preferred registry agent.
During the online vehicle registration renewal process, Alberta’s system asks you to choose a preferred registry agent.
Select Accu-Search when completing your renewal online.
This connects your renewal to Accu-Search and gives you a clear registry contact if you need help understanding the process, resolving a renewal issue, or completing a future registry service.
If Alberta’s online system displays registry agents by legal name, choose the Accu-Search option shown in the list.
Before starting your online renewal, have the required information ready.
You need:
Your vehicle registration certificate includes details such as your licence plate number and registration number. Your driver’s licence includes your driver’s licence number and MVID. Your insurance pink card confirms valid insurance coverage for the vehicle being renewed.
Having these details ready helps prevent delays and reduces the chance of the renewal being rejected because the information does not match the system.
Once your request has been completed, you can download your registration certificate from the My Digital Downloads on the My Account section of the MyAlberta eServices site. The registration certificate can be printed on plain white paper or presented from your mobile device.
You will not receive a physical Certificate of Vehicle Registration in the mail. Please refer to the eligibility section below prior to online renewal.
Remember to select “ACCU-SEARCH REGISTRIES INC.” as your Registry Agent, feel free to contact us if you encounter any problems during the renewal process.
Online renewal is only available for eligible renewals without changes.
You must renew in person at a registry agent if:
For in-person renewal, bring your driver’s licence, proof of valid insurance, and your current vehicle registration certificate if available.
If you are unsure whether your renewal can be completed online or in person, contact Accu-Search before starting.
Vehicle registration renewal fees depend on the vehicle type, renewal period, and renewal situation.
Passenger vehicle registration renewal pricing may start at the standard Alberta renewal amount, but the final cost can vary depending on your vehicle, renewal details, and any additional charges that apply.
Additional charges may apply for electric vehicles, outstanding amounts, or specific renewal situations.
The final amount is shown during the online renewal process before payment. If your renewal requires in-person service, Accu-Search can confirm the applicable fee before processing.
After your online renewal is completed, your updated vehicle registration certificate is available as a digital download.
A printed copy of the digital registration certificate is required. Keep the printed certificate in your vehicle or make sure you have an accessible copy where accepted.
Your registration certificate is not mailed after online renewal.
Licence plate expiry stickers are no longer required in Alberta, but vehicle registration must still be renewed before it expires.
Alberta also allows passenger vehicle and motorcycle registration renewal by mail.
Mail renewal should only be used if your registration expires in 30 days or more. If your registration expires sooner, renew online or in person to avoid processing delays.
If you have outstanding fines or need to update your name, address, or vehicle registration information, you must renew in person at a registry agent.
Start by checking whether your renewal can be completed online or must be handled in person.
Online renewal is best for straightforward renewals with no changes. In-person renewal is required when your information needs to be updated, or Alberta’s system cannot complete the transaction.
For online renewal, prepare your Alberta.ca Account, vehicle registration certificate, driver’s licence, insurance pink card, payment card, and current browser.
For in-person renewal, bring your driver’s licence, proof of insurance, and current registration certificate if available.
If renewing online, follow Alberta’s online renewal process and select Accu-Search as your preferred registry agent.
If renewing in person, visit Accu-Search with the required documents so the renewal can be reviewed and processed.
Review the renewal details and fee before payment.
If there are outstanding fines, incorrect details, expired registration issues, or system mismatches, the renewal may need to be completed in person.
After online renewal, download your digital vehicle registration certificate and print a copy.
After in-person renewal, Accu-Search can provide the updated registration certificate once the transaction is completed.
Vehicle registration renewal is simple when your information is current, and the renewal meets Alberta’s online requirements. It becomes more complicated when your address changed, your registration expired more than 12 months ago, fines are outstanding, the vehicle is company-registered, or the information entered online does not match the system.
Accu-Search helps identify the correct renewal path before processing begins. Our team can explain whether online renewal is available, what documents are required, and when in-person renewal is needed.
This helps you avoid delays, complete the renewal correctly, and keep your Alberta vehicle registration valid.
